Macheo’s volunteer house is situated within the grounds of Macheo’s Residential Care facility and features a garden for enjoying the morning and evening sun.
The house comprises of 4 bedrooms, one with a double bed and no sink, two with single beds and sinks, and the fourth is a smaller room with a bunk bed that can also be used for storage. All beds are equipped with mosquito nets.
There is one bathroom with a sink, shower, and hot water provided by a solar system on the roof, which can be unreliable at times. There is also a separate toilet.
The house is equipped with a simple kitchen that includes a two-burner gas stove and a fridge with a small freezer compartment.
The facility is enclosed by a wall with an electric fence and is guarded by two security personnel at night and one at the main gate during the day. Other buildings on the grounds include housing for residential social workers, a driver, and a nurse, as well as 5 family houses for children aged 2-16, and 2 baby houses for abandoned infants. There is also a large hall, meeting room, and two office buildings with a toilet block.
Visitors are welcome to share meals with the children, but the food may be monotonous and local. There is a supermarket located 5 kilometers away, and transportation can usually be arranged, but it’s recommended to stock up. We advise purchasing bottled water for drinking. We hope you enjoy your stay with us!
